Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has prepared a set of proposals for food embargo in respect of Greece

Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has prepared a set of proposals related to food embargo in respect of Greece, Minister of Economic Development Alexey Ulyukaev stated.

In August, 2014, Russia restricted food-import from countries, which imposed Anti-Russian sanctions, including EU member states. Beef, pork, poultry, sausages, fish, vegetables, fruits, dairy products and other products were banned. However, some EU member countries, including Greece, requested Russia to cancel the embargo.

"Tomorrow, we will discuss in details this topic in the meeting of the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and the Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras, in which I will participate. We have prepared the set of proposals, which is relevant to the food embargo issue," – the Minister reported to journalists, refusing to specify all details.

In March, Ulyukaev said that Russia was looking for ways to ease the food embargo for Hungary and Greece, which wouldn't be inconsistent with the WTO rules. Nikolay Fyodorov, the Minister of Agriculture, claimed in Tuesday, it is unlikely, that the issue about the exclusion of this country from the list of food embargo would be solved during the visit of the Greek delegation in the Russian Federation. However, he noted that there is restriction of on the withdrawal of any country from the list.

Russia traditionally imported horticultural and dairy products, seafood from Greece, and exported energy resource, metals and chemical industry products. Greece took 33rd place among the Russia's trade partners – according to information from the Russian side, the commodity turnover amounted to 4,17 billion dollar and decreased by 39% by 2013.
